  1. How do I administer my domain name?

When you sign up for a domain name, I can take care of any changes you need for the domain name. Should you ever want to make the changes yourself, you can do so through the domain's control panel. To log into the control panel for your domain, simply visit:

    https://manage.opensrs.net

Enter your domain name, your user name, your password, and log in. Keep in mind that you will not be able to make changes unless you contact me ask to have those abilities unlocked in the control panel. This extra step provides more security for your domain account.

Once transfer has unlocked the control panel for your domain, you can log in and change the password, name servers, or any other feature available in the control panel.

Note: We strongly recommend that you let myself or someone who knows how to handle the domain name to make the changes. If you are not fully familiar with how it works, you may stop the domain name from functioning.

If you have any questions, or need the domain control panel unlocked, please email domains@orbportals.com

  2. What should I choose for a domain name?

Anything you want, but my advice is to find something that matches the following 3 criteria.

1.) Represents your business name and identity
2.) Something that's short, like 5-7 characters max.
3.) Something that is a .com or .net. Staples of any serious web site.

  3. How do I change my account domain name?

NOTE: CHANGING AN ACCOUNT DOMAIN NAME WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF ALL DATA ON THE CURRENT DOMAIN NAME.

When you change your domain name, your old account is closed, and a new one is opened with the new domain. This means that all of your previous data is wiped out immediately. Before requesting a domain name change, be sure to backup all data. This includes emails, files, databases, etc.

In order to change your domain name, you must fill out the change domain name form on our website. There is a one time fee of $20.00 USD to do so. If you are changing the domain name to a domain that we must register for you, there is an additional fee for the domain registration.

To change the domain name, please call 321 297-6842

  4. My domain is about to expire. What can I do?

If your domain is close to its expiration, you should renew immediately. Make sure to renew your domain name at least 2 weeks before it is set to expire. Please contact the company that registered your domain in order to renew.

If you have hosting with me and your domain registration is handled by a hosting package I manage, then your domain is renewed automatically with the billing information on file.

You may contact the billing department by emailing billing@orbportals.com. Or, you may call 321 297-6842.

  5. Who owns the domain name if I register it through you?

The owner of any domain registered through myself is the customer, typically, that is registering the domain. Unlike some companies, I do not take ownership of your domain (unless otherwise agreed upon).

This allows you to make changes to the domain at any time because YOU are the legal owner of the domain name.

  6. I already have a site, but I want to change hosting companies?

I can help move your site to a new host. In most cases, the vendor switch is easily accomplished in under 24 hours, but can take longer depending on your site's condition and your old host's rules.

As a matter of policy, I'd advise you to get your site up and running on the new servers before having it removed from your old host's servers to avoid any lengthy (more than a few days) downtime.

  7. How do I transfer my domain from my current registrar to you?

I do not automatically become your registrar when you choose to move your registrar to me. When you choose "transfer" during sign up, a Domain Transfer e-mail is sent to you with instructions on changing your registrar to and we can help coordinate with you on the proper methods of moving it.

If you do not have access to that e-mail, please contact transfer@orbportals.com in order to initiate the registrar transfer.

Before a registrar change can be made, the following MUST be true:

    1) The domain whose registrar is changing must have been active for at least 60 days. An expired domain or a new domain registered less than 60 days ago cannot be transferred to a new registrar. These are not our policies, these are the policies of ICANN, the organization that oversees all domain name registrations.

    2) You must have access to the ADMIN email address listed in the domain's WHOIS entry. When a transfer of registrar is initiated, an email from the current registrar is sent to the admin email address to confirm that the owner of the domain accepts the registrar change.

    3) The domain CANNOT be in a LOCKED status. If it is, please contact the current registrar, have them unlock the domain, and then request a registrar transfer.

If you have any further questions about the transferring of registrars, please contact transfer@orbportals.com. I'm happy to clear up any confusion.
